Similar terminal issue with my 4800 printer

When I had a similar terminal issue with my 4800 I couldn’t find any service
shops in the New York City area that did on-site repairs.
The only one that did repairs to out of warranty printers was Ardito Business
Systems (631-661-7281). They are on Long Island, in Nassau County somewhere. You
have to either bring the machine to them or arrange a pick-up by them. And, I
think that they may only do pick-ups in Manhattan.
The cost of the repair, if the print head did have to be replaced, is as much as
$900. A 4880 after rebate now costs about $1700. I decided to get a new 4880
instead and have been happily printing on it ever since. I got it in July. There
are good prices and rebates on the 4880′s now because Epson is coming out with a
new model sometime early next year. I went with the 4880 because I needed to
print now for my galleries and for my portfolio and because I have used them a
lot at ICP and they produce great prints and handle the heavy weight papers
well.
Also, I don’t like to be one of the first users of a new model of anything
photographic. I like to wait at least 6 months so everyone else can suffer thru
the bug fixes for me.
